The Olympic torch is to be taken for a skate at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham as part of the relay in the build-up to London 2012.

The relay will enter Nottinghamshire on 28 June and first reaches Darlton.

Runners will pass through East Markham, Tuxford, Kirton, Boughton, Edwinstowe, Mansfield, Kelham, Newark-on-Trent, Balderton and Radcliffe-on-Trent.

After the visit to the rink, Nottingham will host the flame for an overnight celebration.

The following morning the torch relay will restart at the Robin Hood statue, outside Nottingham Castle, and head for Derbyshire.
'Get involved'

Organisers have said 95% of the population will be within a one-hour journey time of being able to see the torch.

Newark and Sherwood District Council said it was delighted the torch relay was travelling through its district.

Councillor Roger Jackson, cabinet member for leisure and culture, said it would "shine a light" on the communities involved.

Mansfield mayor Tony Egginton said it was an honour to be part of such a prestigious event.

"We want to inspire Mansfield to get involved and celebrate this historic occasion," he said.

Mansfield District Council plans to hold a number of events in the run-up to the torch relay which will give people the opportunity to share in the Olympic spirit, the mayor said.

Nottingham City Council is also planning events and activities to mark the Games, including a street racing day when a 60m (196ft) running track will be installed in the city centre.
