As for when wheels were first attached, some say the Russians did it in 1784 for a ride in The Gardens of Orienbaum in St. Petersburg. Others argue that the French deserve the credit. Two rides called “Russes a Belleville” and “Promenades Aeriennes” featured carts with wheels that “locked into the track.” Most sites I looked at believe these were the first true roller coasters.
